ZYGMUNT KAŁUŻYŃSKI’S FILM CRITICS AWARD
Jury will also decide of awarding with Zygmunt Kałużyński’s Film Critics Award – the most famous and most controversial Polish film critic. It is an untypical award. According to Kałużyński’s heirs, it goes to those filmmakers who made in their work an exceptionally fascinating creation, scene or take. The filmmakers, who „reached the Absolute for at least a moment".

FLISAK AWARD
First Polish "regional film award". It is a distinction founded each year by the Mayor of Toruń, Mr. Michał Zaleski, which goes each year to the best film which was made by an artist who comes from Kujawy and Pomorze Region – a TOFIFEST homeland. For several years this award has been emerging the most interesting Polish filmmakers who started or binded their artistic way with this region. The award has already initiated the all-Poland cycle of presentations of Torunian and Bydgoszczan films - "WIELOPAK", which has started in 2005.

ZYGMUNT KAŁUŻYŃSKI’S FILM AWARD

„Thanks to this TOFIFEST Festival’s award, Zygmunt spirit will be able to live forever” – with these word Tomasz Raczek confirmed the establishing of the Zygmunt Kałużyński’s Award for a motion picture. From this year on the trophy will be given at the TOFIFEST in Torun.

It’s been the first event in Poland which commemorates Zygmunt Kałużyński - the most prominent and, for sure, the most controversial Polish critic. „He didn’t write about films just because it was his job. He did it because he loved films” – said Raczek, Kałużyński’s long-time co-worker and the co-creator of the famous television’s duet known in Poland from the ”Pearls from a lumber-room” TV-series.
In the first edition, the scene of funeral in Jan Cvitkovic’s “Odgrodadogroba” [„Gravehopping”] was awarded.

Zygmunt Kałużyński’s Award will go to a director whose film will be chosen by the Jurors and will honour a selected, extraordinary - from the point of view of film art – element of a made out film: a capture, a scene or a musical or visual motive. Zygmunt Kałużyński’s Award is to „distinguish this part of the film in which the filmmaker ‘touched the Absolute’” – says Katarzyna JAWORSKA, TOFIFEST’s director and the award’s creator. „The award’s patron always said that only ‘even’ films win the awards at the festivals. Only those in which the sum of pros and cons gives a high average” – says Jaworska. This led to the situation in which often other films in the competition’s stake were omitted. The films in which some brightness was. The films which were worth - as Kałużyński thought – an award for at least one scene, in which the director „touched the God’s hand”. „Our award is to honour a glitter of genius which announces a great film talent” – adds festivals chief. „Zygmunt was looking for pearls everywhere - stressed Raczek- he would surely be very glad to be here. The point is to award not the film itself, but the glitter of genius.” – Raczek added during the conference.
„I am very glad and thank you that it is a festival in Torun where Zygmunt Kałużyński’s spirit will be able to live and it is going to be a great profit for young filmmakers and young people” – said Raczek. „Zygmunt Kałużyński would be very glad if he knew that he will be a patron for such an award”- were Raczek’s final words.
