ABOUT FESTIVAL

TOFIFEST International Film Festival is one of the largest and most interesting summer film events in Poland. TOFIFEST, held in Toruń, is called by the media an „inhumble festival” and „Polish Sundance”. For six years it has been successfully promoting a thinking, young at heart, angry feature cinematography from all over the world. Golden Angels are waiting for the winners of two Festival Competitions.

TOFIFEST International Film Festival, called by the media „an inhumble festival” and „Polish Sundance”, is a summer fest of good authorial cinematography and independent film, and is held in Toruń. The Festival presents the films which are called by the organizers an „inhumble cinema”. For the makers of TOFIFEST want the films screened at the Festival to take part in the discussion about the present-day world, to tell about a contemporary people and their problems.

TOFIFEST has willingly been visited by the stars of the cinema – there have already been a well-known French actress Emanuelle Seigner, an Oscar-nominee director Agnieszka Holland, two-times Oscar nominee – for such Hollywood hits as „Amadeus” „Hair” or „Ragtime” Miroslav Ondricek, a Cannes’ Golden Palm winner Krystyna Janda, Venice’s Golden Lions winner Krzysztof Zanussi, or the winner of Berlin’s Golden Bear Martha Meszaros and others.

The Grand Prix of TOFIFEST is GOLDEN ANGEL – which refers to the Medieval symbol of  Toruń – a hometown of our Festival. Each year TOFIFEST screenes over 150 feature films, among which there are many previously unseen on Polish screens. They are presented in a dozen or so film sections. They are accompanied by the workshops, concerts, theatrical spectacles, dance parties and meetings with the stars of European cinema.
Films awarded at TOFIFEST usually go then to regular distribution throughout Polish cinemas. The winners of main awards at TOFIFEST 2006 and 2007 had already been screened in Polish cinemas, and they soon will be accompanied by the winners of the 2008 edition.

TOFIFEST is held in Toruń – an enscribed on UNESCO World Relics’ List pearl of Gothic, a town that is a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2016 [http://www.torun2016.eu].
