Harry and Sally meet by chance in 1977, when travelling together from Chicago to New York. They have virtually nothing in common, with the widest gap being their individual perspective on the man-woman relations. As years go by, they bump into one another from time to time, in different places and in different phases of their lives. With both of them living a rather solitary life, they start to meet regularly as friends. They share their happy and sad moments, support one another through tougher moments, and get to know the strengths and flaws of one another. Despite all that, each of them is convinced that there can be no real friendship between a man and a woman, because it would always lead to a love affair. It takes five more years for Harry to realise that he has been in love with Sally for a long time. At a New Year’s Eve party, he finds Sally among an ocean of other people.
