Nino and Yasmina have spent the last three decades attracting and pushing one another away. Their love affair is set against the background of the tragedies that plague Lebanon. The country itself sets the limits of an impossible dilemma they face, torn between affection and survival, a dream about becoming a family and the real life that threatens the dream.

Cyril Aris

A film director and screenwriter from Lebanon. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He graduated from MFA film studies at Columbia University. His début was the film ‘The Swing’ (2018), which premièred at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and won numerous international awards. His documentary film ‘Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano’ (2023), made with the support of the Sundance Institute, also premièred in at the Karlovy Vary IFF. It was screened at over 80 international film festivals and won many awards, for example in Rotterdam, Valencia, Rome, or San Francisco. The film ‘A Sad and Beautiful World’ (2025) premièred in the Giornate degli Autori section at the Venice IFF, winning the Audience Award. Cyril Aris is also a film editor, who worked as a co-author of the film ‘Costa Brava, Lebanon’ (Venice, 2021).
