Janna, 12, travels to Mecca, accompanies by her strict grandmother Sitti and rebellious sister Sarah, for the annual Islamic pilgrimage Hajj. Before they reach their destination, Sarah disappears. This forces Janna and Sitti to start a frantic search. Both women try to outdo one another in their desperate attempts to find the girl, fearing the wrath of Sarah’s father. The search takes them through the southern and northern regions of Saudi Arabia, the old pilgrimage roads, harsh landscapes, and encounters with strangers. As they travel on, Janna starts to unravel the deeply hidden family secrets and Sitti’s complicated past. The difficult road ahead that reflects the spiritual rites of Hajj can lead not only to reconciliation, but to forgiveness.
