Following the death of his wife, grief-stricken ornithologist Vilius must raise their daughter on his own. One day, while driving home he accidentally hits a group of smugglers running away from the border guard. Noticing Vilius has a GPS system for monitoring birds installed in his car, the criminals suddenly see a potential advantage and offer partnership. Vilius agrees instantly, tempted by the salary they promise and a vision of escaping the torments of his current life. Instead of watching migrating birds, he now tracks down illegal goods transported across the border. During one of such missions, things get out of hand. The intense thriller ‘Borderline’ is a story about crossing boundaries, both the physical and moral ones, and about a man forced to face the consequences of his own choices.

Ignas Jonynas

A film director and screenwriter from Lithuania. The idea for the film dates back to the COVID-19 pandemic that brought about a redefinition of the meaning of physical and mental boundaries. In the film, those boundaries become a metaphor of the inner conflicts and choices that torment the main protagonist. A criminal by his own volition, he must now confront who he has become.
