Silent Rebellion

Emma, 15, who got pregnant from a rape, must confront the repressive attitude of a Protestant community in her village. This is the only way for her to be able to make her own decisions. The trauma she experienced is a catalyst for emancipation, as she faces the moral hypocrisy of the village and the shadow of the approaching World War Two.

Marie-Elsa Sgualdo

A film director and screenwriter, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. She is a graduate of the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) and the Belgian film and drama school INSAS in Brussels. Her short film ‘Vas-y je t’aime’ (2009) was screened at the Locarno IFF, while ‘On the Beach’ (2012) won the Bayard d’or Award for Best Short at the Namur International Festival of French-Speaking Film, and ‘You Can’t Do Everything at Once, But You Can Leave Everything at Once’ (2013) was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight section in Cannes and for over fifty other film festivals. The film ‘Silent Rebellion’ is her full-length début.
