Magali, who assumes an alias Magaloche among her online fans, is a controversial Internet personality who became popular by publishing shocking performances in social media, in which she does not shy away from auto-aggression. When filming another performance, a serious piano accident happens. The woman is forced to hide away from any publicity and regain control of her own life. Accompanied by her assistant Patrick, she holes up in a secluded mountain cabin, looking for a piece of mind and refuge from the media buzz. Their isolation comes to an abrupt end, when they get discovered by Simone Herzog, a ruthless journalist, who does not hesitate to intimidate Magali, so she can force her first ever interview out of her. The new film from Quentin Dupieux, author of such films as ‘Incroyable mais vrai / Incredible But True’ or ‘Daaaaaali!,’ is a biting satire on the modern Internet culture and obsession with becoming popular, brimming with a dark sense of humour. Using absurdity and craftiness as his typical tools of choice, Quentin Dupieux reveals the mechanisms powering social media and shows both the creators and recipients of such content in a false mirror.
