We are travelling back in time to the 1980s. The New Adventure Cinema movement is having its triumphal march, while Robert Zemeckis is following the trail that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg had set just a decade ago. And there was no mistake in it. We have some great news to share with all of you , who used to own a collection of VHS cassettes with the film series ‘Back to the Future’, and also with those of you, who would like to set on an adventure to look for a way to travel in time, for the very first time. We are happy to announce that the irresistible urge to discover new things and the limitless imagination of the protagonists featured in the film trilogy by Robert Zemeckis constitute the leading theme of this year’s edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. The fictional figure of Emmett Brown, a rebellious scientist and a visionary, is a symbol of the tenacity and consistency found in those, who want to discover the undiscovered and give a name to the nameless. Such sentiments must have been shared commonly by many of the scientists whose great discoveries helped debunk stereotypes and set new paths for the progression of mankind. Our festival audiences will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see all the three parts of ‘Back to the Future’, which is a story about boundless imagination, a friendship that spans generations, and extraordinary discoveries. And all of that in their digitally remastered versions served on a big screen!
We would love to invite you all to go with us on a film journey, during which we will travel far beyond the limits of imagination, says Kafka Jaworska, director of the festival, even more so as this is a very special year, marking the 550th birth anniversary of a brilliant mathematician, economist, but above all an astronomer, who stopped the Sun to move the Earth. This was a ground-breaking discovery, which changed the world for his contemporaries.
The 21st edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. Kujawy Pomorze Region takes place from 27th June, 2023, to 2nd July, 2023, (as always) in Toruń. Our festival audiences can see festival screenings at various locations, namely the Festival Centre at the Cultural and Congress Centre Jordanki, Cinema City, an open-air cinema in the yard of the Old Town City Hall, and also in the Końcówa pub.
