It’s time to unveil the Polish Competition lineup - one of the flagship sections of the BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival. Once again, the FROM POLAND section is curated by acclaimed film critic Łukasz Maciejewski. As in previous years, the festival audience will choose the best Polish film and the winning director, who will receive the Golden Angel Award. After the screenings, festivalgoers will have the chance to meet special guests, including Andrzej Chyra, Katarzyna Herman, Łukasz Simlat, Marta Nieradkiewicz, Olga Bołądź, Krystian Pesta, Radosław Piwowarski and Marieta Żukowska.
“The Polish Competition is both a prestigious and democratic selection - because it’s the audience that serves as the jury. Viewers vote for what they feel is the strongest, most meaningful film of the festival. The focus here is purely on quality - craftsmanship and artistic merit - without drawing lines between so-called “festival cinema” (whatever that may mean) and commercial productions. That’s why this year’s lineup includes crowd-pleasers like “Beautiful!” and “Światłoczuła”, compelling biopics (“Simona Kossak”, “Kulej. All That Glitters Isn’t Gold”), thought-provoking dramas (“Skrzyżowanie”, “Travel Essentials”, “The Seasons”, “Where Do We Begin”), bold auteur cinema (“Challenge of the Bow”, “It’s Not My Movie”, “Under the Grey Sky”, “The Girl with the Needle”, “Clearing”), and genre films (“Życie dla początkujących”, “Sparrow”, “Pani od polskiego”),” says Łukasz Maciejewski, curator of the FROM POLAND section.
Following the screenings, we invite you to attend free Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. Among the guests will be Olga Bołądź and Krystian Pesta - recipients of the BellaTOFIFEST IFF FLISAK Award, presented by the Mayor of Toruń. Many more artists will be making their way to Toruń in late June and early July. Keep an eye on updates at bellatofifest.pl and our Facebook page.
All the awards in the From Poland section are funded by Studio Podłóg Ablux.
