The film presents a real character with a unique biography.  Bronisław Pekosiński lives in Zamość — he has no family and no idea, who he really is. His surname — Pekosiński — is an abbreviation of PKOS, a care centre. Bronisław has had a cerebral haemorrhage and is now paralysed. Nonetheless, he has a guiding star in his life:   he plays chess in a masterly fashion. He was humiliated, cast out, betrayed and deceived, but managed to retain his dignity, goodness and trust. He has been looking for his mother, all his life. We see him create himself, in front of the camera, in various periods of his life.
