During the 23rd BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival, the prestigious Ryszard Bugajski Award for Best Director in the Polish Competition will be presented for the first time. The festival program includes the cult film by this outstanding filmmaker, "Interrogation", which will be screened on Friday, July 4th at 4:00 PM at Cinema City.

Following the screening, there will be an open meeting with actress and Ryszard Bugajski’s wife, Maria Mamona, as well as Jacek Petrycki, the cinematographer of "Interrogation."

Ryszard Bugajski was one of the most distinguished Polish directors. He began his career as an assistant to Krzysztof Zanussi. A few years later, he joined the Zespół Filmowy “X”, founded by Andrzej Wajda, where he directed "A Woman and a Woman" (1979), "Zajęcia dydaktyczne" (1980) and "Interrogation" (1982), based on his own novel. This timeless Polish film was blocked by censorship for several years did not premiere in cinemas until after 1989. The production featured outstanding Polish actors, including Krystyna Janda, Janusz Gajos, and Adam Ferency.

"Interrogation" tells the story of a young artist, Antonina Dziwisz, who is arrested and imprisoned in the early 1950s. Investigators demand that she testify against a fellow band member — an officer suspected of treason. The woman is subjected to brutal pressure, blackmail, and violence. In captivity, she experiences profound loneliness and despair. Her story depicts the gradual breakdown of an individual confronted with a system that tolerates no dissent — the film has been hailed as "the most anti-communist film in the history of the Polish People's Republic." In 2008, Bugajski was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his outstanding contribution to Poland’s democratic transformation.

The Ryszard Bugajski Award for Best Director in the Polish Competition will be presented during the Closing Ceremony of the BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival.
