Shula is 9 years old and she has just been recognised as a witch. Since she is an orphan and helpless in the face of such an accusation, she is sent to a witch camp. The camp has been designed to isolate women excluded from the community and force them to work hard; they are also a local tourist attraction. Each of the witches in the camp has a white sash attached to her back ― this is to ensure that they will not fly away.
