“We rushed headlong into it” – the truth behind making Polish independent films. Day 3 at Tofifest 2016

Below is an account on the Monday meet-the-author sessions with our guests, as seen from the perspective of the Tofi press office. On Tuesday, Tofifest audiences had an opportunity to meet with the legend of Polish independent cinema, Dominik Matwiejczyk, as well as with Ralitza Petrova, a winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno IFF, and many others. We have also a couple of festival film reviews.

Jolanta Sokal attended the meeting with Dominik Matwiejczyk, which followed the screening of “Krew z nosa”.

“The way you fall is not important, it is the way you land that matters”, explains Pablo, the main protagonist in the film, to his friends, in the opening scene of “Krew z nosa”. “When making <<Krew z nosa>>, we rushed headlong into it,” admitted the director. Read more >> http://bit.ly/2dJhBIl

Roch Rucinski provides a review of “Agnus Dei”

The title may as well be “Les Innocentes” (French for “Innocent”), but it is a bold films that stirs up emotions! Anne Fontaine used her film to take up a very difficult subject. What Tofi has in store for you on Tuesday, 18th October

On Tuesday, there will be an opportunity to talk to Sonja Richter, an excellent actress of Danish origin, who is also one of the jurors in the ON AIR Main Competition. Sonja Richter is known to a wide audience as the main protagonist in the dark Scandinavian crime story “The Keeper of Lost Causes” (Kvinden i buret). Before that film made her famous, she had become popular with her appearance in “Open Hearts” (Elsker dig for evigt) by Susanne Bier, which brought her a nomination for the Bodil Award given by Danish Film Critics Association, and for the Robert Award awarded by the Danish Film Academy. In 2007, her theatre and film appearances were recognised by the Danish Royal Family, which brought Sonia the Culture Award given by the Crown Prince Couple of Denmark. In 2014, she appeared in the American film “The Homesman”, in which she accompanied Tommy Lee Jones and Hillary Swank.

On Tuesday, the theatrical highlight will be a performance entitled Czesław Śpiewa Solo Act. It is a combination of a monodrama, stand-up performance, and concert performed by one of the most popular modern artists – Czeslaw Mozil. It is about Poland seen from the perspective of a double emigrant, who lives travelling between Denmark and Poland, and loves the absurdities of both countries, looking at everything with a sense of humour. These are stories from the life of Czeslaw, told with the help of his greatest hits performed live. It is a perverse, bitter-sweet, and very funny story about patriotism, emigration, and homeland, but also about the everyday life of this popular artist. What does it mean to be a success in Poland? How can you sit on the substitutes' bench and still score goals? Is being an alternative artists popular among chavs? Is is sung. It is funny. It is touching. And still very relevant.
