Russian cinematography is currently having its renaissance. Extraordinary filmmakers, both men and women, as well as outstanding actors and actresses — all of them prove the greatness of Russian cinema. Today, Russian films are not only constant elements of the biggest film festivals around the globe, where they win countless awards, but also a reflection of the social thought and national spirit of contemporary Russia.
It is one of those cinemas that can boast of an array of great and extraordinarily talented female directors and actresses. Their work is the leitmotif behind the panorama of Russian cinema, which is part of the 11th edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. The retrospective of Russian cinema will focus on the numerous faces of women, from ordinary to extraordinary heroines in contemporary Russia. These will be unique portraits and stories that have already won awards, among other, at film festivals in Cannes, Karlovy Vary, and Cottbus.
