Basement is a place cloaked in mystery. It is referred to as the mirror of the soul, which reflects the true needs, passions, or obsessions. The things the protagonists portrayed by Ulrich Seidl do in their basements reveal more about themselves, than one could expect. Some use the basement to practice their opera voices, others as a gallery of Nazi memorabilia, while some other people as a place to fulfil their sexual fantasies, or as a shelter for a snake they need to hide. The basement is a place in our subconscious that is full of darkness and fear, a peculiar seat of human abyss...
