Lucentio, son of a wealthy merchant from Pisa, comes to Padua to study. During a festival, he falls in love with the beautiful Bianca, who has several admirers to choose from. However, the father will only allow her to marry until his elder daughter, the shrewish Katherina, has found a husband. Tricking others into believing that he is a Latin tutor, Lucentio finds a way to see Bianca. Unfortunately, Hortensio, a rival suitor to Bianca, concocts a similar plan. Hortensio finds Petruchio, a fortune seeker, who agrees to marry Katherina in return for a hefty dowry...
