Gaba Kulka, Ten Typ Mes, Justyna Swies, and Buslav will set free the Energy of Film Music
The Energy of Film Music concert will close this year's edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. Gaba Kulka, Ten Typ Mes, Justyna Swies, and Buslav will perform on stage, presenting re-interpretations of the evergreens which Polish filmmakers have always been so fond of, under the creative direction of Bartek Staszkiewicz, who has rearranged the songs for this particular occasion.
Authors of soundtracks have frequently used music hits to fit them in film contexts. During the concert, you will listen to the song “Kocham Wolność” (I Love Freedom) by Chłopcy z Placu Broni written in 1990, which was back then a great protest song of the Polish people, and later found its rightful place in “Walesa. Man of Hope” by Andrzej Wajda, “Chłopcy” (Boys) by Myslovitz, which resounded in “It's Us” by Waldemar Szarek, or “Odchodząc” (Leaving) by Republika featured in “My Angelica” by Stanislaw Kuznik – it was one of the songs recorded for the last record released by the band, before the untimely death of its leader, Grzegorz Ciechowski, who was also the author of the excellent soundtrack to “The Witcher” by Marek Brodzki.
The concert is also intended to be a sentimental journey in time. Some of the songs which we first heard on the silver screen or on TV are now considered to be timeless music hits – what other name can we give to “Już nie zapomnisz mnie” (You won’t forget me) from the film “Forgotten Melody”, “Motylem jestem” (I am a butterfly) from the cult TV series “Czterdziestolatek” (A Forty-Year-Old), or the soundtrack to “Akademia Pana Kleksa” (Mister Blot's Academy) by Krzysztof Gradowski? During the closing ceremony of the Tofifest International Film Festival, we will surely rediscover this amazingly diverse music from Polish films, watching performances of the unique artists invited to participate in the project.
The Energy of Film Music concert will take place on Saturday, 27th October 2018, at 7.00 p.m., at the Cultural and Congress Centre Jordanki. Tickets are available on tofifest.pl.
The artists we will see and hear in Torun:
- GABA KULKA - She started her career in music with an album titled “Out,” which she recorded and released on her own. “Hat, Rabbit” – her third full-length album – won a multitude of awards. In 2014, Gaba Kulka released “The Escapist,” an album that defines her music character and the inspirations drawn from the music giants of the 1970s, jazz, folk music, but also from the noisy 1980s.
- TEN TYP MES - He is an unconventional MC with seven albums to his name. As a lyricist, Typ is always about being controversial and straightforward. His vocal interpretations on the verge of g-funk and punk rock have earned him the title of the most all-singing rapper in Poland. He often changes his stage image, which is both intriguing to his fans avid for surprised, and stupefying to sceptics.
- JUSTYNA ŚWIĘS - She is a vocalist, lyricist, songwriter, and actress, one of the most talented young artists in her generation. She is most famous for her performances in The Dumplings, a band with which she won the Fryderyk Award in the Phonographic Début of the Year category, given by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry, in 2015. She is a winner of the Grzegorz Ciechowski Arts Award given by the President of Torun.
- BUSLAV - He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and a lyricist with a long-time experience as a session musician of international fame. His début solo album offers a simple form, which leads directly to the essence of the things he sings about. In 2017, his début album was twice nominated for Fryderyk Awards, in the Début of the Year and Pop Album of the Year categories, respectively. It was also used to promote season 4 of the popular TV series “Druga szansa” (Second Chance) produced by TVN television station.
