Czeslaw Mozil at Tofifest: “I love seeing myself on posters.” Day 5 at Tofifest 2016

On Wednesday, the audience was seduced by Czeslaw Mozil and his performance Czesław Śpiewa Solo Act, in addition to a series of excellent films that were screened.

As a reviewer from the Tofi press office reported: “When watching a performance of Mozil, you can definitely feel that the artist is a sort of a shaman, who uses his lyrical monodrama to take us on a journey to the magical realms of our consciousness.” He has also revealed a somewhat narcissistic pleasure he likes to indulge in : “I love seeing myself on posters. I remember that after I had signed my first contract, I saw my face on a huge billboard, when driving on a motorway. I am 1.69m tall, so the possibility of seeing myself so enlarged tickled my vanity.”

It is worth adding that there will be another opportunity to meet Mozil. During Tofifest, there will be a screening of a film, in which Czeslaw Mozil played one of the leading characters, i.e. “Szkoła uwodzenia Czesława M.” directed by Aleksander Dembski. It is a story of a popular musician, who decides to leave his colourful life of a Warsaw celebrity behind. Our protagonist ends up in Swinioujscie and meets two shipyard workers – together, they decide to open a school of flirting for men, the first of its kind on the coast of Poland. The screening will take place on Friday, 21st October, 7:30 p.m., at the Od Nowa Club.

The audience of Tofifest also had an opportunity to participate in a meeting with an outstanding Norwegian film director and a special guest of the festival, Erik Poppe. The meeting started with a small ceremony of awarding a Golden Angel of Tofifest for artistic insolence, to the director. Poppe has always gone against the tide, both in his films and in his private life. He started his professional career as a war photojournalist, and then took to making films and creating uncompromising portraits of contemporary Norway.

On Thursday, we will have a unique opportunity to meet Paul Trynka – the only official biographer of David Bowie! It will be the one and only chance to listen to and even to talk to a man, who David valued a lot and let him in on his deepest secrets.

Dagmara Borkowska had an opportunity to take a peek at Czeslaw Mozil’s recesses of the soul. “I love seeing myself on posters” – The solitude of Czeslaw Mozil (...) Faith is a very intimate thing to me. I feel no urge to talk about in tabloids. I have met Polish people, who could see it in my eyes that I am a good Christian. (…)

Marek Sofij attended the meeting with Sonja Richter. “I have become an actress to experience extreme emotional states” – A report on the meeting with Sonja Richter. The “Forward: Sonja Richter” section of the festival included the screening of “The Keeper of Lost Causes”, in which the main character was portrayed by Sonja Richter, one of the jurors of the On Air competition during Tofifest 2016. The actress talked about working on the film, preparing for the role, and also about her perspective on where that specific and heavy atmosphere in Scandinavian crime stories came from.

Angelika Jasiulewicz has provided a detailed report on the meeting with Marek Kondrat and his audience. “I was a fool to have waited four long years, before coming here” – Marek Kondrat with the Golden Angel of Tofifest! “I am very grateful for your thoughts and kindness, which have materialised in this Golden Angel. Memory can fail you, but some things remain for ever. And though I receive this award for my rebellious nature, I believe it is actually the fruit of my absolute humbleness,” commented Marek Kondrat on being awarded the Golden Angel of Tofifest for artistic insolence.
