Spain, contemporary times. David, an excellent neurosurgeon, is involved in a car accident that claims the life of his wife. He ends up in hospital, with numerous injuries. Following medical tests, it is discovered that he has cancer of blood — a bone marrow transplant from a member of the closest family is his only hope for survival. Much to his surprise, he learns that he is an adopted child. In an effort to find his true parents, he starts a private investigation that goes all the way back to the dark time of the Civil War...
