Young Hannbial loses his parents and sister in shocking circumstances, during WWII. He makes a daring escape from his native country, Lithuania, which is now occupied by Communists, and gets to the castle of his uncle, in France. While there, he meets Lady Murasaki, an exquisite woman, who introduces him to the world of impeccable manners, sophisticated art, and more than that... That initiates a dangerous game that may help Hannibal find answers to the questions about his past that torture him.
