Trailer

It is not just a film about old cinemas in Bydgoszcz, which operated in the city for more than 20 years. This is first and foremost a “story about passing time and journey into the world of people’s memories”. A young director from Bydgoszcz puts two chairs from a former pre-war Pomorzanin cinema in Bydgoszcz, in places where other Bydgoszcz cinemas used to be, and invites passers-by to have a little chat. Director Krzysztof Nowicki has had a very interesting chat with Joanna Lach fro Gazeta Wyborcza daily, in which he had this to say: “I used elements of performance art. I used to put two red cinema chairs from Pomorzanin Cinema in front of former cinemas, for 6 months. I interfered with the steady street motion. I waited for people to react. And some sat next to me and remembered. Let’s take that elderly couple, who talked to me about their favourite film mornings. I was surprised to discover how much some people missed those mornings and how sentimental they were about them. I was also very impressed with the cinemas located away from the former city centre. They were for example Słońce (Sun) in Gorzyskowo district or Mimoza (Mimosa) near the Grunwald Roundabout. Now we have a shopping centre there, but earlier there were allotments. There was even some space for cultural activities.”
