On Saturday was announced the nominations for the European Film Awards. Polish director Małgorzata Szumowska was nominated for Best European Director. Nomination for the Best Film was given to the winner of Tofifest'2015 icelandic movie Rams by Grímur Hákonarson.
When all the votes have been finally counted, we can officially announce that the Canadian-Afghan co-production Mina Walking by Yosef Baraki has won the audience award at the 13th edition of the Tofifest International Film Festival. The beautiful film about a 12-year-old girl from Kabul enchanted the audience at the festival in Torun.
The Icelandic film director Grímur Hákonarson was present in the flesh, while the Swedish filmmaker Magnus van Horn was represented by his film and its producer Mariusz Wlodarski. Both directors confronted the audience at Tofifest with two very different, but also intuitively quite similar, Scandinavian perspectives on cinema.

Grand Prix – the Golden Angel of Tofifest – flies to Iceland. There are many cinema celebrities present among the guests to the Tofifest festival that lasts until Sunday, this week. One day, two of such guests came to take part in festival screenings, and both differ from each other just as night and day. One of them was Academy Awards nominee Amy Berg and enfant terrible of Polish cinema, Przemyslaw Wojcieszek.
Saturday, 24 October, is not only the time of the election silence. It is also a day of an exceptional meeting. Outstanding director and this year’s juror of Tofifest, Anne Fontaine, will present at 15.00 the making-of her latest film Agnus Dei starring, among others, Agata Kulesza and Agata Buzek. Free entry.
The Tuesday belonged to Julian Sands. His monodrama A Celebration of Harold Pinter got a standing ovation by the audience of Tofifest. The British actor known for his performances in A Room with a View and The Killing Fields, and working with Roland Joffe, Wim Wenders, or David Cronenberg, crushed the audience with the simplicity and beauty of his performance.

We are disclosing the name of the last member of the jury in the ON AIR main competition at Tofifest 2015. It is Joe Pantoliano, winner of the Emmy Award. He is an American actor, producer, and director, who has become famous, thanks to his roles in Matrix, Bad Boys, or The Sopranos TV series.
Iceland and Portugal have their own special places at this year's Tofifest. There will be a separate section -- Small country, big cinema -- dedicated to Scandinavians, and two retrospectives dedicated to filmmakers from the south of Europe.

Sparrows, Rúnar Rúnarsson’s most recent feature, has won the Golden Shell award for Best Film at the prestigious San Sebastián International Film Festival in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain. Sparrows recently had its world premiere at the Toronto and now arrived on Tofifest filmfestival.
This year, the SHORTCUT section of the festival will present the cream of international short films. The films qualified for the section include candidates for Academy Awards, winners of awards at international film festivals, and the winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes – Waves '98.

We have received very sad news from the Gdynia Film Festival. Marcin Wrona, a talented Polish film director, has died. His body was found in a hotel room, at Friday night. Wrona directed such movies as My Blood, Baptism, and Demon, featured in this year’s Main Competition.

Paul Anthony Romero will play his own music composed for the the Heroes of Might and Magic series of computer games, during the Closing Ceremony of the TOFIFEST International Film Festival, on 24th October. The concert in Torun will be the very first performance of this American composer in Europe. Tickets for this event can already be bought.
New film of Filip Bajon, authors of cinema hits “girlish marriage ceremonies” and the “early spring” is casting the fresh look at the timeless comedy “Morality of Ms Dulska” for Gabriela Zapolska, moving between three temporal plans: with the beginning of the 20th century, year 1954 but the present. The first series was appearing on screens in 2013. Gierszał is currently filming the Pokot of Oscar-nominee director Agnieszka Holland.

During the festival ReAnimania, in the capital of Armenia - Yerevan, we could watch the first fragments of full-length animation "Last Round in Istanbul" directed by the French - Armenian filmmaker Serge Avedikian.
